To market, to market

Posted by Jason & Sharon Epperly

To buy a fat pig…

Our driver took the day off today (it was his son’s birthday), so we did too. We ended up going with Koysta and his wife to the open air market. This is a mix of a flea market and a grocery store. Little booths run by different vendors. Outside was mostly clothing, but in the main building was the meat and product. It was quite an experience. Vendors selling meets, produce, spices, and our favorite, confections. We could have gotten pork, beef, or rabbit. We had our choice of ears, feet, livers, tongues, tails, or hearts. We got chicken :)

Yes, that is a pig’s head :)

Here is some braided smoke gouda… really good (at least I think so)

Here are some of the different cookies and pastries we picked up. The best was the chocolate stick (bottom right) that was stuffed with some kind of light coffee flavored cream.

We have not heard back on the paperwork that is in Kiev yet. As soon as we hear something we will let everyone know. Tomorrow we will be visiting Jonas again and will have more to report. Can’t wait to get home again, home again, jiggity jig.

More pictures of food!

Jason has been derelict in his duty to us.

We live through his exploits as he eats his way across central Europe.

It's the only escape we have.

Other than the paperwork mistake, it appears things are proceeding smoothly. Good luck!

The sweets and cheese look yummy! The pig's head -- not so much! So glad that you are able to explore and experience Jonas' world. You'll have so much to share with him as he grows. You guys are constantly in our hearts and prayers. We miss you lots and look forward to seeing you again and meeting your son. Keep the updates and pictures coming!

Love ya!

Aren't you glad that are markets aren't so "colorful"??? International travel is such an eye-opening experience...
Looking forward to seeing more pictures of Jonas and hearing the updates. Praying for good news about the paperwork!
Love ya,
Mandy

Do you still have an appetite after visiting the market? Looks exactly like what I grew up with in South America. Every time we'd take visitors to the market, they would lose their appetite and feel sick the rest of the trip. We finally learned to leave that part of the tour out! Hope you have a wonderful visit with Jonas tomorrow. Give him a high five from the Heaths. Looking forward to seeing more pictures and hearing about your paperwork.

We are writing down the cyrillic for chicken as we speak so when we go alone to the market tomorrow we get what we want! LOVE the picture! So glad you didn't find a half rack of dog or cat!

OK....I could have done without the pig image in my head. Not the first time I have seen it though. My aunt and uncle (missionaries in Brazil) served pig ear and snout in a bean soup at a family reunion once. They got the desired result which was a bunch of us gagging. Not a happy memory and it also was the first time my parents met Andy's. Good times, good times. Sharon, your face says it all. You look like you have been forced to get close to the pig and are in the middle of saying eeewwww!! Love it....keep it coming :)

That cheese is really good! In fact, if you'd like to bring some back to share, Jason, I don't think anyone at work would complain! :)
