Where have you guys been? Part II

Posted by Jason & Sharon Epperly

1/22/2009

  • 7:20AM – Got off the train and took a taxi to Vanya’s apartment in Gorlivka to drop off our bags
  • 8:00AM - Took taxi to Makeevka (Southeastern Ukraine)
  • 9:15AM – Met with the city official that oversees adoptions (referred to as the Social Worker) and got approved to visit the orphanage
  • 10:00AM – Arrived at the orphanage. Watched the children play together
  • 12:30PM – Nap time at the orphanage (till 3). Left to go eat lunch
  • 2:00PM – Went back to orphanage early and asked them to wake him up early. Spent time with him alone.

A little about Jonas. His given name is Igor Yuri <insert long Russian sounding last name>. He is very quiet and rarely speaks to adults. He has no idea what is going on, but he knows these crazy Americans brought good snacks! He does not really know what to think about us. He is 4 years old with blond hair and dark gray/green eyes. He likes chocolate, so he has got that going for him :)

  • 4:00PM – Went back to the Social Worker’s office to get approved for adopting Jonas. The next phase of paperwork begins.
  • 4:30PM – Drove back to Gorlivka
  • 5:15PM – Went to a notary to get official applications for adopting Jonas
  • 6:30PM – Left the notary and went to market
  • 7:00PM – Stopped by Vanya’s house for tea with him and his Mom and Grandmother.
  • 8:30PM – Left Vanya’s house and went to our new apartment. As it turns out, because we are in this particular town and our Facilitators are known here, we have been provided a WONDERFUL apartment for FREE. The apartment building was sponsored by Sister Schubert and made available to families adopting here. Thank You Sister Schubert!

  • 8:35PM – Arrived at apartment
  • 8:36PM – Taking much needed showers
  • 9:30PM – Fell asleep, slept very hard and did not wake up until the alarm went off. Yeah!!!!!!!!

  • 7:00AM – Alarm went off, boooo!!!!!
  • 8:15AM – Left for Makeevka to see the Social Worker
  • 9:00AM – Left to run Jonas to a doctors appointment (went really well)
  • 1:00PM – Arrived back at the orphanage and played with Jonas for a little while
  • 2:00PM – Left to come back to apartment
  • 7:00PM – Got a chance to call home and talk to the girls.  They are holding up well (better than us).

To our girls,
We miss you so much!!!. We are doing everything we can to get home FAST. Thank you so much for being so good and helpful to Granny. We are so proud of you guys. We LOVE you!!!

To Family and Friends,
Thank you so much for you comments and prayers. They are a much needed item over here. Please continue to pray for a SMOOTH and FAST process! We love you too!

This is fantastic. I have been checking the site every couple of hours. I just grabbed my computer and ran out to the corner and was too late. The girls had already shown everyone his picture. He is adorable. Can't wait to meet him. I can't believe everything is moving so fast. Lots of love, Abby

Jason & Sharon - He is beautiful! I am so happy for you. Jason when you get back to the office I want to learn more about your experience to see if perhaps Sheryl and I could be blessed with such a wonderful life changing experience.

Best wishes and safe travels home!

What a great looking little boy! I'm like others and have been checking almost hourly to see what's going on with you guys! So glad you are staying in Gorlovka - you will find it's a great town and since you're in that region, hopefully things will go smoothly as you rush around for paperwork after court.

Praying for a quick court date and things to move smoothly for you. We remember that process very well.
